Purpose:
There are around 50 Chinese students in OC. While we are learning the culture of United States, it is also important to let them know us. This is the reason why we keep holding Chinese Night every year. I hope everyone can be involved in this activity and do whatever you can do to help.
Time:
The date of Chinese Night 2014 is set up on February 19th. This is the date of Spring Festival in China. It is great timing for every one of us to have fun together.
Publicity:
-
The publicity should start one month before the Chinese Night, so I set it up on January 15st.
-
What we basically do is set up some tables in student center to sell some traditional food and gifts.
-
Also, we need to have our designed posters posted around campus.
-
Furthermore, before the sale start, we need to decide what are we going to use as this year’s souvenir. Last year, we sold mugs as souvenir and it had a really good response from students. We also sold t-shirts two years ago.
Programs:
-
I got some feedback of the Chinese Year last year, and the game part had the highest evaluation from audience. I plan to have more games this year. Using chopsticks to catch moving small balls would be funny and challenging.
-
The Cheongsam show is the tradition part of Chinese Year. I would like to keep it this year. It might be more interesting if we have some cheongsams that can be dressed by students from other countries.
Cost: Depending on the cost of last year’s Chinese Night, I suggest we budget $1000 for using.
-
Food and dishes ---- 300
-
Souvenir ---- 250
-
Program props and costumes ---- 250
-
Posters and props for sale ---- 80
-
Backup money ----120
Also, same as last year, we will return any left eves money back to the donators.
People in charge:
All these three parts need people to take charge of.
-
I need 3 people to take charge of the Publicity part. Basically, this group needs to manage people to do the sale, design poster and handout. Also, after we decide what this year’s souvenir will be, this group needs to operate it. All of these need be done before January 15st.
-
I need 2 people take charge of the Programs. The whole Chinese Night needs to fill at least 3 hours. It is divided into three parts, which are the show part, the game part, and the free activities. This group needs to arrange the people who are going to performance, the chargers of culture tables, and the people who serve food for customers. Because time is limited, it must be distributed properly. The total plan and the program list should be done before the last day of December, because we might need to buy something online, which may take more time.
-
I need 2 people to take charge of the money. This group needs to apply for funding from the school and collect donations. I hope this can start in December. After that, group 3 needs to record every detail about how our budget has been spent, or will be spent. This group also needs to collect money from the sale and decide the price of products.
-
I need 3 people work together to solve pop-up issues, and other preparation. For example, order the food from Chinese restaurant, buy stuff to decorate our night, and so on.
If you would like to take any part of Chinese Night, please e-mail me back.
End up:
Chinese Night has been hold for 3 years and has got a lot positive feedback from students and teachers. It is a really good chance for us to show our culture and our tradition. It is not an extremely huge event, but also an important night for us. I hope every one of us can get together, because it will make Chinese Night much easier to operate.
If you have any question or suggestion, I will be really happy to hear!
I bet we will do a great job this year!
Sincerely,
Jing An
