Dear Jacob,

The International Education Week is coming next month. It is a great opportunity for students in Oklahoma Christian to learn different cultures and expand knowledge. Chroma and Multi-culture Committee of Student Government Association all appreciate this chance from the university. We would like to thank you for hosting the International Education Week for all international students. In order to make that week more interesting and attractive for students, we have prepared a proposal about holding an International Talent Show for that week.

Our proposal describes the different steps of the International Talent Show, including the preparation, the publicity, and the show itself. We also include the purpose of the Talent Show and the desired result of it. Because the students in Oklahoma Christian come from more than 50 countries, this International Talent Show can provide a chance for every country to show something about their culture. Also, the students can get a sense of the differences among countries directly.  Furthermore, the Talent Show can enhance the whole International Education Week by organizing all countries together and showing them on a same stage.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this proposal. We will use all resources available to ensure a successful International Talent Show.

Sincerely yours,

Jing An

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The International Talent Show is a show that organized and hosted by international students to show the different cultures and traditions of their countries.

During the International Education Week, different countries are set in different buildings around our campus. It is hard for student body to feel the overall status of the plenty colorful cultures in Oklahoma Christian University, so we recommend having an International Talent Show to help students get a more direct feeling of the different cultures among different countries.

During the show, every country will present one performance to show their culture or tradition. When all the performances done, there will be some international games to interactive with audiences. At the end, we will use different language to worship together.

The total budget for the Talent Show is 200 dollars, which is provided by Multi-culture Committee of Student Government Association. Because the date of International Education Week is set up from November 14th to 21th, the International Talent Show provisionally arranged for 8p.m on November 20th.

We highly recommend organizing an International Talent Show, because it can enhance the whole International Education Week by organizing all countries together and showing them on a same stage.

INTRODUCTION

Last year, some International students suggested organizing an event to show their cultures and traditions. Officers in the International Office thought that was a really good idea, because it would be a great opportunity to let students know more about the internationals in Oklahoma Christian from more than 50 countries. On October 10th, 2013, the first International Talent Show was held in the Scott Chapel for all members in Oklahoma Christian and Memorial church. It received a lot of positive good feedback from audiences.

However, due to the limited of publicity, the audiences were small. There were only around 100 people who came to enjoy the show.

Students from every country had wonderful and unique performances. The audiences either learned something or tried something new that day. We were certain that if more people come, the show could be more successful.

That is the reason why we propose to hold International Talent Show during the International Education Week this year. These two events can not only cooperate together, but also enhance each other.

DETAILS OF INTERNATIONAL TALENT SHOW

The Talent Show has three main steps:

  • During the first step, students need to sign up for their countries to let us know how many countries will participate. After that, we will decide how many shows every country can have. Also, every country needs to have a person take charge; all members of one country will discuss and let us know what they are going to perform. When everything is done, the list of all the performances will be posted.

  • The second step is the publicity. If we could hold the Talent Show during the International Week, the publicity would be much easier. We will have posters and handouts telling students the date and place of our show. Furthermore, we will have some “trailers”. For example, we plan to have a “flash mob” in student center. Our staffs will pop up then start a Rwanda dance in the middle of a “usual” day. When the dance finishes, we will invite students to come to our Talent Show.

  • The third and the final step is the show itself. The show can be divided into three parts: the performance, the games, the cultural learning, and the international worship.

  • Performance:

There are two kinds of performances:

  • Single culture: the single culture means that the performance only shows one country’s culture or tradition. For instance, there will be Chinese Qipao show, which only shows the Chinese traditional dress.

  • Multi cultures: the multi culture performance can combine different cultures, like the dance we had last year, which was a Japanese student playing guitar with a Chinese student singing.

Games:

  • Language game

  • Music game

  • Character game

Culture learning:

  • Every country will have a short video to show their culture or tradition

  • After the show finishes, there will be some tables outside with some interesting cultural items or traditional foods for students to learn and try.

  • International worship:

CONCLUSION

The Talent Show is a great opportunity for all Oklahoma Christian members to know more internationals with their cultures and traditions. Especially during the International Education Week, we believe these two events can not only cooperate, but also enhance each other.
